Transformers: Beast Wars Season One DVD

Posted by Robin . on Thursday, June 16, 2011, In : Movies
My husband started sharing his childhood loves with our son a very long time ago. One thing that they've always shared an intense interest in is Transformers. From the toys to the tv shows to the blockbuster movies, Transformers enthrall and enchant both my husband and my son. In the mid 90s, a Transformers tv show debuted and ran for three years. My husband and son may have missed it back then but, thanks to Shout! Factory, they can both experience all the fun of Transformers: Beast Wars now...

The Wild Thornberrys Season One DVD Set

Posted by Robin . on Monday, June 6, 2011, In : Movies
I'm always looking for shows that my kids can watch and enjoy that don't entirely irritate me. A while back, they discovered a new show that I absolutely love and that completely cracks them up. The Wild Thornberrys is a classic Nickelodeon show that, like all of the classic Nickelodeon shows, is entertaining for both kids and parents.

The premise of the show follows the Thornberry family as they travel the world looking for rare animals to film and focuses on their daughter, Eliza, who has t...

Professor Kobre's Lightscoop

Posted by Robin . on Saturday, May 7, 2011, In : Photography
I've been an on-location, natural light photographer for a while now. Shooting in natural light is easy and makes editing painless. Moving indoors, without all the fancy schmancy equipment, is another story. I had put off indoor shooting for quite some time, aside from the Momtogue shots I take of my kiddos or at family functions. Like many others, I assumed that to get amazing indoor shots that didn't require tons of editing, I'd have to splurge on some top of the line equipment and flashes....

Bambi - Diamond Addition

Posted by Robin . on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, In : Movies
I know so many people who can describe to you their first memory of one movie in particular. No movie really seems quite as beloved as Bambi. I know that watching my kids watch Bambi for the first time was a magical experience. Watching it in all of it's digitally remastered glory really made it unbelievable.

For a limited time only, Disney has released Bambi from the vault and is adding the timeless movie its coveted, cutting-edge Blu-ray™ Diamond Collection line-up of Disney’s greatest ...

If you're anything like me, you're dreaming of getting a pretty little package from your sweetheart on Valentine's Day. Decorative Ceiling Tiles

Posted by Robin . on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, In : For the Home
Last year when I did my home makeover, one of the things that I left undone was my ceiling. It remains unfinished for several reasons, though I desperately want to redo the entire thing. Our ceilings are the old popcorn ceilings. While doing my renovations, I considered two options for my ceilings, neither very appealing. Either I can cover everything in my house and make a humongous mess to scrape all the popcorn off and then paint the whole area or install new ceiling. One is incredibly mes...

GelPro Anti-Fatigue Floor Mats

Posted by Robin . on Friday, January 14, 2011, In : Home Decor
I've got a family of four, I cook most of our meals from scratch and I've got no dishwasher.

I spend a lot of time in front of my sink. Washing dishes.

I don't mind washing dishes. Most women think I'm crazy but, I really enjoy it. What I do not enjoy is spending that time standing at my sink uncomfortable.

For several weeks, however, that time spent at the sink has been much more comfortable. Why? Because I got a new floor mat for my kitchen. How could that make such a difference? Because it'...

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Posted by Robin . on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, In : Movies
You know, there are a few movies from our childhood that just don't lose their sparkle and magic. One of my favorite movies that will forever be magical for me is Mary Poppins. For others, it's The Sound of Music. Added to that list of classic children's movies that will forever stand the test of time is absolutely Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It seems that Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews pretty much made movie gold out of all the kid movies they made.

This November, old and new fans are now able...

Posted by Robin . on Sunday, November 14, 2010, In : Unique Items
My husband and I both use disposable razors. We each have the brand that we like to use and we both really like the ones that we normally purchase. The thing is, no matter how much we like the razors we use, there's nothing we can do about the fact that we always have to purchase more to replace the dulling blades. Buying razor blades seriously makes me cringe. The prices seem like they just climb and climb. I love the razors I buy but, I've always wished I didn't have to replace them so ofte...

I remember packing my bag for the hospital when my son was born six years ago. Like most women, I had certain things that I knew I didn't want to forget. So, I stopped blow drying. (Because there's no way I can stop flat ironing!) Always having to let my hair air dry beore I could style is a total pain though. As my kids get older, there are some things that I can trust them to do without me hovering over them. Washing their hands still isn't one of those things. They don't remember on their own to wash their hands and, when I tell them to do it, there is usually whining involved. Getting rid of stretch marks

Posted by Robin . on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, In : For Mom
I'll go ahead and say it.

I have stretch marks.

I remember the first time I saw one on my upper thigh; I had just lost some size in my legs after leaving the high school dance team and was left with a few silvery lines. After having my children, I was left with more of those little lines. I know that I'm lucky in some aspects; I don't have any stretch marks on my stomach due to pregnancy but, still cringe when trying on swimsuits and see the stretch marks on my upper thighs.

Storage Closet from CSN Stores

Posted by Robin . on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, In : Storage and Organization
I have a problem in my master bedroom. Apparently, when this house was built, people didn't have as many articles of clothing as they do now. Walk-in-closets must have not been invented yet. Between the massive amount of clothing that my husband owns and all of my clothing, there is seriously zero space. Our clothes are actually spread out between several other closets in the house and it's frustrating. Short of major renovations to expand the closets, I had resigned myself to having to go to...

ZeroWater

Posted by Robin Haws on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, In : Kitchen
We've always been fans of filtered water in our home. I suppose living places where the water was terrible forced us to come to that but, we enjoy having that filtered water in the fridge. We used to buy the jugs of water and my husband decided it was far more inexpensive to just go with the pitchers. We used one of the name brand pitchers that you find at all the major grocery stores for a long time. No complaints but, we've recently discovered how filtered that water really is.

We had the o...

Sparkle Plenty

I love sparkly jewelry. I don't know many women and girls who don't. My daughter is only two and she is already obsessed with "fancies" (her word for jewelry). Well, I got a new "fancy" recently and was so happy to add it to my collection of gorgeous bracelets.

Sparkle Plenty is an online boutique for amazing Swarovski and Crystal Jewelry and Apparel. A little about them in their own words: "Sparkle Plenty began working directly with Swarovski Crystal Components in 1999, providing beautiful cr...

Scandinavian Child

Posted by Robin Haws on Thursday, December 10, 2009, In : For Baby
Scandinavian Child is a company started by a mom who knew the importance of products that are designed to be safe for children without compromising beauty. While on a trip to Sweden, the owner of this amazing company saw for the first time one of the products that she would eventually end up making available to so many more parents. How lucky for us that she saw the Svan high chair and decided to share what she had found.

The products at Scandinavian Child are beyond exquisite. Every brand ca...

Scholastic DVD Treasury Sets

Posted by Robin Haws on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : Movies
When I was a child, one of my favorite books was called "Harry the Dirty Dog". I loved reading it to my son from the time he was very small. Recently, the joy of that book has been brought to life on our tv and my son is just beside himself. Scholastic has introduced a new DVD set, Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Animal Antics and More. This set includes 7 discs with more than an hour of fun and stories on each.

I love the read along function on these discs. My kids like to be read to but,...

My daughter has almost as many pairs of shoes as I do. Really, she's following in my footsteps and she's doing it in some pretty adorable shoes. One of her newest pair of shoes is from Shooshoos. Cute name and cuter shoes.

Pillow Pets

Posted by Robin Haws on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : Toys
My kids have so many stuffed animals, it's amazing. They are really taking over the room and they are everywhere. They are played with and then tossed aside. Some are shown a little more love but, aside from a little play time here and there, they are mostly just in the way and don't really have much of a function in the room other than taking up the top bunk.

Apparently I'm not the only mom with this problem. In 2003, a mom decided to do something about it and created a line of children's st...

Pottery and Pillows

Since becoming more of a domesticated housewife in the last few years, one of the things I've been looking forward to is taking baked goodies and homemade yummies to our holiday events on really cute plates and platters. If I'm going to spend the time to cook then I want it to look cute when I'm serving it too! This year I am so very excited to bring desserts to the family table on a new plate I recently got from Pottery and Pillows.

C. Belly Belts

Posted by Robin Haws on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : Kid Accessories
My son is very skinny. It's always a challenge to find pants that are long enough but, fit him around the waist. My daughter doesn't have a problem with pants fitting her waist but, like lots of toddlers, she can generally be seen with the pants snug at the tummy and hanging halfway down her bottom. Both children usually need a belt. This can pose a problem at times. My son is very independant and gets frustrated with belts when he is getting dressed or using the restroom. My daughter just is...

When I came across JD Wolfe Pottery I was blown away by the handmade pieces in the store and became an instant fan of the uber talented handiwork.

Nursery Style from Serena & Lily

There's something that happens to a woman when she's pregnant. It's a phenomena that creates an urge to design a space that is a haven for the pending bundle of joy. The desire to "nest" inevitably hits new parents and the nursery dreaming begins. Serena & Lily takes the dreams of new parents and presents them in beautifully created collections of furniture, bedding, gifts and necessary gear.

A nursery needn't be looked at as a diaper-changing, baby-napping, toy-storing room of the house. Thi...

We have spent countless amounts of money on the batteries for our childrens' toys. The bigger the toy, the bigger the battery and the more expensive. I've often wondered how much money we could save if we could power their toys on their own energy. The inventors of the PlasmaCar are one step ahead of me.

When it comes to outdoor ride-on toys it can be difficult to find something that is simple enough for a 2 year old but, fun enough for an older child. The pedals are inevitably too small or t...

Snog Lip Balm and Upper Canada Soap Review

Snog - (verb): A colloquial British/Australian expression referring to a passionate kiss.

What a genius name for a lip balm! Snog lip balm is a super hydrating balm that is small enough for those little pockets on your jeans. You know. The pockets you never do anything with! Not only is it cute and little, it makes your lips feel amazing. I've personally never been a fan of lip balms or chapsticks or lip gloss of any kind. I will admit that I was wary when I tried Snog. I used to work in a daycare. Anyone who's ever worked in one or been in one knows that daycares and schools are the homes of some of the snottiest noses around. I was constantly wiping noses. No matter how soft, tissue eventually leads to irritation and can never get the really stubborn boogies! Like most moms, I've often used baby wipes on my own kids faces. When my daughter was an infant we had all the seating for babies. She spent time in her baby papason chair, boucy seat, bumbo and with a nursing pillow and blanket on the floor. I had problems with all of them. Putting her flat on the floor always seemed uncomfortable and the nursing pillow seemed really awkward on her neck.
