Today's image was really fun. It's definitely an image that is very much my style and it instantly screamed to me that it needed to be dirtied up. I like grungy editing with images like this and purposely take them often for that purpose.

Here is the original image from an i heart faces contributing photographer (I did not take this picture).

And here is the image editing by moi. (The edits are mine, not the photography)

I use picnik.com for editing. The first thing I did here was to brighten the eyes. That's generally one of my first steps with a picture. I wanted it over the top grungy so, I knocked down the color saturation and used the Gritty tool. I faded the gritty about halfway and kicked up the black a tad. I layered the Cinemascope on top of that. I added some local contrast and amped the shadows a bit, threw a faded vignette on and opted for rounded corners. A little airbrushing took away a lot of the filmgrain on the skin because sometimes I don't like that.

Seems like a lot of steps but, with picnik it's so easy to work quickly and play around with different effects.

Love the grittiness of the final image.
