I'd like to think that I'm pretty "crafty" but, a fashionista, I am not. When it comes to designing clothing and accessories, my fashion prowess doesn't extend beyond little girl dresses and hair bows. I had never really given a lot of thought to being able to design things for myself. Not many of us have that kind of talent. Then I came across a website that not only sells the materials you need to design your own clothing and accessories, they also arm you with the tutorials you need to be successful at it!
New York Design Shop is for the fashion designer in all of us. Whether you are a pro or a bumbling fashion fool like me, this is the site for you. Let me first say that I am still blown away at the endless possibilities that exist when you browse the clothing, accessories and DIY materials at New York Design Shop. From tshirts to leggings, gloves to scarves, and every embellishment you could possibly think of, this site has it all.
Not a designer? No idea where you'd begin? No worries. Explore the DIY tutorials and videos and see what strikes your fancy. Get an idea from a tutorial or get inspired from browsing the embellishments. Then, take your idea and run with it.
How it works:
New York Design Shop sent me one of their unbelievably soft v-neck tees and some of the amazing silk rosette strips. I browsed through their tutorials until I saw something similar to what I wanted to do with my materials. After hand stitching the rosettes to the tee, I'm left with an amazing creation that looks like I paid big bucks at a designer store and looks almost exactly like the tutorial!
Why it's awesome:
You can make clothing and accessories that look like department store designer clothing for so much less than you'd pay in the store. I think that anyone who needs a gift for a preteen or teen girl will score big with items from New York Design Shop. I took my leftover rosettes and sewed them to a tee for one of my neices. She absolutely flipped over it, as did her friends. Give the items as a gift for the girl to make herself and get her creative juices flowing or make it yourself and give the finished product as an amazing present!
