There are a lot of cartoons that I watched as a child that I love introducing to my kids. Some are silly and pointless and then there are others that, while entertaining, teach strong lessons that I feel my kids and all kids should learn. Captain Planet was always one of those cartoons that taught valuable lessons. It's funny because the eco-friendly message is so strong these days but, this cartoon began making it's impact over 20 years ago.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is about an environmentally conscious superhero and his gang of teens that help thwart the eco-villains who are out to destroy the world. Every episode teaches messages of being conscious of our environment and the things that we do that hurt it. The lessons that were valid in the early 90s hit even more close to home these days. I love that my kids are getting these lessons in such an entertaining way.

For kids like mine, that adore superheroes, Captain Planet is just another exciting character that they get to follow on his adventures. My 6 year old son obviously loves the series but, I was surprised at how much my 3 year old daughter immediately fell in love with the show and the characters. I love that the Planeteers represent both genders and give my daughter someone to identify with.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers boasts an all-star that includes the voices of stars like Whoopi Goldberg, Meg Ryan, Martin Sheen, Sting and more, as well as plot lines that have the group facing problems like garbage dumping, rainforest destruction, pollution and more. Every episode ends with Captain Planet's special tagline, "The Power Is Yours" and includes a short instruction of how we can all be a part of the solution.

I love everything about Captain Planet. I loved the show as a child and love it now for my children. In today's day and age of silly cartoons with no real message, I highly recommend the entertaining episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers!
