I have really curly hair.

And I hate it.

Yeah, yeah, I know. All you straight haired girls are gasping and wishing you had curly hair, right? If my son's "magic wand" really worked, I'd give you my curls in a heartbeat.

But, I can't get rid of them. Believe me, I've tried.

So, I'm left with one option. Flat iron. And it's my best friend!

I've been flat ironing my hair for probably ten years or so. I've tried tons of different brands of flat irons throughout the years. I've had my hair straightened at the salon with a Chi flat iron. I've used decent flat irons and cheap flat irons. They're all different and all do different things to my hair. Some I liked, some not so much.

I recently had the immense honor of getting to try out the Hana Professional Flat Iron from Misikko. I'm not sure if I'll ever want to use another flat iron.

The Hana Professional Flat Iron arrived at my house and I ripped into the box. Really, for someone who uses a flat iron as much as I do, getting a new one is on the level with maybe a new diamond ring. As I opened the box, I'm pretty sure I gasped aloud. The packaging was gorgeous. Silk flowers surrounding the shiny tin that I knew contained the new flat iron. Inside the tin was, indeed, my flat iron. Along with it, a heat proof travel pouch and a heat proof silicone mat.

Let me take a moment and tell you how impressed I am by the silicone mat. I never would have thought of this but, now that I have it, can't imagine living without it. My flat iron gets used daily. I plug it in and go about my business. There are times when I don't make it back to the bathroom for quite a while, such is the life of a mother. I love knowing that my flat iron is sitting on that mat instead of directly on my bathroom counter. Sometimes I like to sit on the floor in the living room and watch tv while I straighten my hair. It is so much nicer to have the flat iron on the mat instead of on the carpet. If you have a flat iron, you need one of these mats!

So, what do I think about the Hana Professional Flat Iron?

I'm in love. Seriously. In addition to my curls, I have very thick, coarse, dry hair. This flat iron doesn't just straighten. It smooths my hair and makes it feel great. The Hana Professional Flat Iron features advanced Tourmaline Ceramic Plates for accelerated ion generation and maximum frizz-free, conditioning shine. The heat settings on this flat iron let me crank it up to 450 degrees and I love how quickly it heats up. The ceramic plates heat up evenly and it's got an incredibly smooth glide that never lets my hair get tangled as I straighten. I also adore how long the cord is and that it swivels to keep you from getting caught up. I really can't say enough great things about this flat iron. I'll admit that I'm always wary when I try a new one. The Hana Professional Flat Iron from Misikko exceeded my expectations and requirements for a ceramic flat iron.

Want to know something else? It cut about 20 minutes off the amount of time it takes to straighten all my hair. That is huge for me!

In addition to the Hana Professional Flat Iron, I also tested the Hana ShineShield serum. Because of my frizzy, dry hair and all the straightening I do, I use shine and anti-frizz serum all the time. Love the stuff but, some can leave my hair greasy or just doesn't work very well and needs to be reapplied often. The Hana ShineShield works really well. It's got an awesome scent and feels like silk. My hair never feels or looks greasy after I use it and I love putting it on both before and after styling my hair. I love soda. It's my weakness. My kids love it too, even though I hate to let them have it. I am aware of how unhealthy it is and know it's a terrible weakness to have.

But,

Thanks to a wonderful product I tried recently, I don't have to feel so guilty about my soda indulgences!

SodaStream is a truly remarkable product. My two main concerns with drinking regular soda are the calories (and sugar content) and the price. SodaStream solves both of those problems while not taking away from the flavor and total enjoyment of having a soda.

The process is insanely easy too! Simply fill the reusable bottle with water, twist it on to the soda maker, carbonate to your liking by pressing one button and then add your flavoring. It is seriously easy. What I love is that you can carbonate as little or as much as you like. Use tap water or filtered water. And the flavors to choose from? They are unbelievable!

I was really blown away by the flavor choices. There are so many. All the classics are there and some that I hadn't even thought of. The taste? Amazing! Really, some taste just like their name brand counterparts and some are even better. I can't tell you how surprised I was by the taste of these drinks. With over 30 different flavors to choose from, you'll find a favorite for everyone in the family.

Everyone knows that regular sodas are loaded with sugar and calories. Name brand sodas like Pepsi, Coke and Sprite have 100 calories per serving. SodaStream sodas have less than half that! Only 34 calories per serving. A regular Coke or Pepsi has anywhere from 23-25 mg of caffeine per serving. SodaStream sodas have 15mg caffeine. And the sugar? Regular sodas have over 25 mg of sugar per serving. SodaStream has 9 mg of sugar per serving! Now you see why I don't feel so bad drinking these sodas or giving them to my kids?

The cost value is truly awesome. You'll get 12 liters of soda out of one syrup bottle from SodaStream. The syrup bottles range from $4.99 - $6.99. A 2-liter of soda is about $2 which means for the same amount of soda you would spend at least $12 at the grocery store (or more). And how much of that soda would go to waste because it gets flat before you drink it? One thing I noticed about the SodaStream system is that it stays carbonated longer than a regular soda. I love that.

No matter what kind of mom you are, chances are that we've got one thing in common. We are busy. That's just the way it is. Moms are busy. I actually didn't realize until we got them that what appears to be laces is really elastic. These shoes are slip on! He loves how comfy they are and we both love that he can put them on all by himself! Pediped FLEX shoes have soft and flexible soles and uppers, come with a heel cushion and (the coolest part) they come with an extra 2mm insole to customize the fit. That means you can buy them too big, use the extra insole and then remove it as they grow. Talk about more bang for your buck! I love this feature. Love! Kids grow out of their shoes so fast that it sometimes feels like a waste of money. This doubles the life of these adorable and durable shoes!

Atterdag Kids sent us the Pediped Addison for Snappy. These are so cute. This striped Mary Jane style shoe is also a FLEX style. They are comfortable for my little toddler and I love that she'll be able to show off the cuteness for a long time because of that extra insole.

I absolutely recommend the Pediped shoes and have actually been singing their praises to all my friends. I love Atterdag Kids and recommend their easy to use site to anyone looking for the most adorable children's clothes. I also recommend stopping by their physical storefront if you are ever in Solvang, California. I was lucky enough to visit their once and the town of Solvang is an adorable Dutch community with the most beautiful shops and, though they weren't open yet when I visited the town, I am certain that Atterdag Kids fits right in with the gorgeous shops and scenery.

DownEast Basics 28-Day Style Guide CLOSED

I'm not a name brand person. I don't really get attached to a brand and never really have in my life. I have stores that I frequent but, not faithfully. All that changed when I found DownEast Basics.

With each item of clothing from DownEast Basics that I add to my wardrobe, I'm more and more convinced that they are "my brand". From the Longitude Cardigan to the Miss Slim Skinny Jeans, the Heart Throb Shorts and the Atlantic Skirt, I love everything. The clothing fits perfectly, flatters my body, goes with everything and makes me super happy.

DownEast Basics has been coming out with new clothes this year that are just blowing me away. The stylish looks and chic accessories just make me all warm inside. I really never thought I'd find a clothing company that I liked this much. The prices are reasonable and the fashions are modest and completely stylish at the same time. It's hard when you get to a point in your life where you are too old for junior's clothing but, feel too young for the "Ladies Department". DownEast Basics has solved that problem for me.

The 28-Day Style Guide that DownEast Basics came out with for February is awesome. Tons of new clothing and it's all laid out in easy to see styles. I am head over heels goofy for the Atlantic Skirt. First, I adore versatility and this skirt is absolutely versatile. I love long, swishy skirts and I really like the roll-down waist of this one. How does it get better? Pull the waistband up and you've got an adorable tube dress! Swoon! As is, over a tank or swimsuit, with a cute little cardigan or chic belt, the possibilities are endless for this rockin' skirt/dress!

I've also got the Heart Throb Shorts. Like the Miss Slim Skinny Jeans, they fit me perfectly. I love the little bit of stretch that these shorts have. I also love the color of denim. The slight distressing on these bermuda shorts and the wide hem detail make them look really great while they are super comfortable. These will absolutely be a staple in my spring and summer wardrobe.

If you'll remember my last post about DownEast Basics then you'll recall the Longitude Cardigan that I raved about. I still wear this cardigan almost every day. I actually have it on as I type this. It is without a doubt, one of my favorite pieces of clothing. And those skinny jeans that were my first pair? Love them. I've worn them with sandals and with boots and I looooove them. I never ever thought I'd be a "skinny jeans girl" but, DownEast Basics changed my attitude!

I just can't recommend this company enough. I'm in love with all of their clothes. Really, a shopping spree at DownEast Basics, to own it all, would be the end all be all of my clothing desires.

Is remodeling on your New Year's Resolution list?

I know it's on mine. We're doing our sprucing in little spurts. While paint and flooring and total overhauls definitely change a place, I tend to be drawn towards the small things. The little changes that completely change a room I may not be able to start demolition on just yet.

I've always noticed the faucets in a home. It's just something I pay attention to. I've been in homes and taken extra time when washing my hands or rinsing a dish, just to admire their faucets a little longer. I've always wanted covet-worthy faucets. I've never had them.

Until now!

I was recently sent a new kitchen faucet from the fabulous Price Pfister. Who are they? They are a leader in the plumbing industry and have been for nearly a century. They are experts in chic, modern, gorgeous, affordable faucets and accessories. They are my new best friend. Seriously, I'd like to bake some cookies for whoever designed this faucet. I'm sure my hubby would like to give them a beer or handshake or whatever the male equivalent of cookie baking is.

It took me a few weeks to convince my hubby that my nagging would not go away and he needed desperately to install my new faucet. Upon completion, he admitted that he had procrastinated because he was intimidated by the parts and instructions. He said that once he started, it couldn't have been easier. He was thrilled with the design and said that the instructions were not only helpful but, incredibly easy to understand and follow. Then he got a little technical but, apparently at some point where he had to screw something into something else and it's usually a pain to do with other faucets, this one blew him away because the design of it made it unbelievably easy. And, should he have run into any problems, the easy to navigate Price Pfister website has so many helpful tools for troubleshooting and installation.

I guarantee that when we replace the other faucets, hubby and I will both head straight for Price Pfister. I am in love with the sleek look, the color, the design that makes washing dishes actually easier and beyond in love with how this little change has completely made my not-ready-for-remodel kitchen look fabulous!

Whether you are doing a huge change and overhaul or just want that new little touch to your kitchen or bathroom, I highly recommend the faucets from Price Pfister. My husband gives his man seal of approval as well for the design and easy installation.

February 15th is Presiden'ts Day and Scholastic Storybook Treasures has released a new dvd for kids who want to learn about America's political life. The new Storybook DVD includes an all-new animated adaptation of Judith St. George's Caldecott Medal-winning book, So You Want to Be President?. This story, narrated by Stockard Channing, gives kids a fun look at anecdotes and trivia surrounding the US presidency. Kids will learn things like six of our former presidents were named James and eight former presidents were born in log-cabins.

Other stories on the DVD include a dog's view of Washington written by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a book about a girl who dreams of being President, and the story of a girl who wins the vote for women in Wyoming Territory. All the stories included on this Scholastic DVD are both fun and inspiring for all kids.

My children are only 5 and 2. No real knowledge of politics or anything outside the politics of our little family. Still, they thoroughly enjoy this DVD and love to listen to the stories.

All the DVDs from Scholastic Storybook Treasures are absolute instant classics as soon as they are opened. Kids of so many age ranges can truly love and cherish the stories and find that when they are brought to life, it's like hearing it for the first time. My family has enjoyed every Scholastic DVD we've ever watched and this new DVD is no exception.
